Biography
Bob Doughty graduated from Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles (now California School of the Arts in Valencia), where he studied with many of the masters of California Regionalism, including Rex Brandt, Watson Cross, Elmer Plummer, and Dan Lutz. After graduation, he worked as a commercial artist for several aerospace companies, preparing satellite renderings, portraits, and paintings of military and commercial subjects.
Retired from aerospace, Doughty now enjoys the luxury of painting the natural beauty of California and the West in his medium of choice—usually watercolor. He specializes in ships and the LA harbor, landscapes, and figure studies. He accepts portrait commissions, working in oil, watercolor, and graphite, and will provide caricatures for special occasions.
Doughty is a member of the Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles, as well as several Palos Verdes peninsula art associations. His work can also be seen at the Avenues Gallery of the Palos Verdes Art Center in the Palos Verdes Avenues Mall, and at Rex's Restaurant, Pacific and 22nd, San Pedro.
